Using Text Log Monitor through Firewalls and over Wide Area Networks

Unlike Network Event Viewer and SMART Disk Monitor, Text Log Monitor does not use Microsoft's WMI API to monitor files. Text Log Monitor relies on the operating system's file system to receive notification when a log file is updated. Both real-time monitoring and scheduled reporting must have read access to each log file. As long as the Windows Service has access to read the remote files, Text Log Monitor is able to monitor the files. If a remote file is not accessable, the System Adminitrator must install Text Log Monitor on each remote system.
